Pim Valdre

Pim Valdre serves as the Director of External Relations. Pim joined IPI in January 2006 as Program Officer for Coping with Crisis, Conflict, and Change. In this research program she focused on crisis theory, multilateral diplomacy, and the ongoing reform of the United Nations.

Prior to IPI, Pim was working in the Office of the President of the 60th session of the United Nations General Assembly where she served as Assistant Attaché. During this time, her responsibilities included performing various diplomatic tasks with a special focus on the Special Political and Decolonization Committee (4th Committee). In addition, Pim tracked various processes related to the reform of the United Nations and the follow-up and implementation of the 2005 World Summit Outcome Document. She also assisted in organizing high-level events such as the 2006 high-level meeting on HIV/AIDS.

Pim obtained a BA in political science from the University of Stockholm and a master’s degree in political science from the University of Uppsala in Sweden. She also holds a Diplôme du Programme Internationale from the Institut d'Etudes Politiques (IEP) in Paris, France. She is fluent in Swedish and English and has a working knowledge of French and German.

Preventive Diplomacy: Regions in Focus

 

Over the past few years there has been a resurgence of interest in employing preventive tools to thwart the outbreak and escalation of violent conflict. This paper looks at the state of and challenges ahead for preventive diplomacy in four different regions of the world: Africa, Latin America, Southeast Asia, and Northeast Asia.
