Shachtman: Cyber Threats Akin to South Bronx, Not Pearl Harbor
“There’s not a danger of a cyber Pearl Harbor… it’s more like the South Bronx circa 1999, where there’s a danger that it becomes such a tough neighborhood that no one wants to set up shop there and people move out,” Noah Shachtman, editor of the Danger Room blog at Wired magazine and non-resident fellow at the Brookings Institution, told an IPI audience at a panel on cyber security on May 3, 2011.

Swanee Hunt on the Risk of Being “Even-Handed” in Bosnia
“Don’t be afraid to say there is an aggressor here,” Swanee Hunt, Chair of the Institute for Inclusive Security, told an IPI audience while discussing her new book, Worlds Apart: Bosnian Lessons for Global Security. Ms. Hunt served as the US Ambassador to Austria between 1993-97 and hosted negotiations and meetings focused on stabilizing the neighboring Balkan states.

A World With No Center of Gravity
Outlining the ideas in his new book, No One’s World, Charles A. Kupchan told an IPI audience on April 11th that, "I don't think that the pendulum is swinging to China or Asia in general or anywhere else. It is swinging everywhere, and therefore nowhere.

One of the pillars of IPI is its convening role. Each year IPI organizes a wide-ranging selection of meetings designed to facilitate strategic thinking and policy development on issues related to peace and security. IPI aims to strengthen public awareness through the generation of policy recommendations and the dissemination of research findings not only within the UN community, but within academic, political, civil society circles and beyond. This is achieved through a range of off- and on-the-record discussions, including policy fora focusing on expert briefings, examinations of military and police practices and preparations, book launches, speaker presentations, workshops and seminars, and full-day and multi-day conferences.
