"The Trouble With the Congo" by Severine Autesserre

During the past decade, international actors such as the United Nations and the European Union have engaged heavily in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) in an attempt to help the country transition from war to peace. Yet billions of dollars in international assistance, and the UN’s largest peacekeeping operation have failed to bring peace and good governance to the DRC.

Post-Conflict Peacebuilding: Civil Society Perspectives on Prospects, Challenges and Way Forward

On June 30, 2009, IPI and the Permanent Mission of Uganda to the UN co-hosted a lunchtime policy discussion with civil society representatives on the recently released Secretary-General’s Report on Peacebuilding in the Immediate Aftermath of Conflict.
 

About This Project

This program provides policy support to partners in their efforts to improve interventions in post-conflict countries. It focuses specifically on providing direct support to the UN Peacebuilding Commission and Peacebuilding Support Office by facilitating informal dialogue among member states and UN officials on peacebuilding issues, and by supporting ongoing policy development within the UN system.
