Tracking Al-Qaida: Terrorism and the Internet in the Twenty-First Century

Earlier this month, the International Peace Institute hosted a lunchtime policy forum on "Tracking Al-Qaida: Terrorism and the Internet in the Twenty-First Century," with speakers Dr. Marc Sageman, Scholar in Residence at the New York Police Department, and Mr. Evan Kohlmann, an international terrorism consultant. The event, attended by diplomats, practitioners, and researchers, focused on the changing nature of recruitment and social interaction among violent extremists due to the growing use of the internet.

On November 7th, IPI hosted a panel discussion to launch the new volume, Peace Operations: Trends, Progress, and Prospects, edited by Donald C. F. Daniel, Patricia Taft, and Sharon Wiharta (Georgetown University Press 2008).

IPI's Coping with Crisis program organized a roundtable meeting on small arms and light weapons (SALW) at the Millennium Hotel in New York City. It was the fourth of five such meetings of "Task Force One: Transnational Security Challenges."

As part of its work on strengthening multilateral capacity, IPI's Coping with Crisis program held a roundtable meeting on countering global terrorism at the Trygve Lie Center for Peace, Security, and Development. The roundtable was the third in a series within IPI's "Task Force One: Transnational Security Challenges."

IPI's Coping with Crisis program held a roundtable meeting on weapons of mass destruction at the Trygve Lie Center for Peace, Security, and Development. It was the second roundtable of "Task Force One: Transnational Security Challenges."
 

About This Program

Coping with Crisis is a multi-year research and policy-facilitation program that works to inform and assist decision makers in the UN, multilateral organizations, member state capitals, and civil society to address emerging security challenges and strengthening multilateral response capacities.
