Swanee Hunt on the Risk of Being “Even-Handed” in Bosnia

“Don’t be afraid to say there is an aggressor here,” Swanee Hunt, Chair of the Institute for Inclusive Security, told an IPI audience while discussing her new book, Worlds Apart: Bosnian Lessons for Global Security. Ms. Hunt served as the US Ambassador to Austria between 1993-97 and hosted negotiations and meetings focused on stabilizing the neighboring Balkan states.

A workshop at IPI's Vienna office on April 3rd focused on confidence-building measures (CBMs) and how they have been used to reduce tensions and build trust between parties in several conflict situations throughout the world. It also briefly reflected on experience with CBMs in the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) area.

Gelb Says US is Indispensable World Leader, With Allies

Leslie Gelb, president emeritus of the Council on Foreign Relations and author of a new book, Power Rules, said last week at an IPI event that the US remains the indispensable leader of the world, though US partnerships with other states are equally indispensable.
