Over sixty experts from the UN and its members states, along with experts form various think tanks convened to discuss questions surrounding the UN’s role in reducing nuclear, chemical and biological arms at the International Peace Institute’s annual New York Seminar. Over sixty experts attended IPI’s 2009 New York Seminar.

On March 27th, IPI hosted Senator Penny Wong, Minister for Climate Change and Water of Australia, who spoke on the key components needed for an effective global climate change agreement, including cap-and-trade emissions schemes and cooperation with developing countries in reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation.

Tracking Al-Qaida: Terrorism and the Internet in the Twenty-First Century
Earlier this month, the International Peace Institute hosted a lunchtime policy forum on "Tracking Al-Qaida: Terrorism and the Internet in the Twenty-First Century," with speakers Dr. Marc Sageman, Scholar in Residence at the New York Police Department, and Mr. Evan Kohlmann, an international terrorism consultant. The event, attended by diplomats, practitioners, and researchers, focused on the changing nature of recruitment and social interaction among violent extremists due to the growing use of the internet.
