Jean-Marie Guehenno Addresses Turtle Bay Club
On the evening of June 26th, a select group of ambassadors and other members of the UN community gathered to hear Jean-Marie Guéhenno, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, speak at IPI’s Trygve Lie Center for Peace, Security, & Development.
Having served as Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations since October 2000, Guéhenno has overseen peace operations in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Haiti, Sudan, East Timor, and Lebanon, as well as many other ongoing missions worldwide. At this IPI off-the-record event, he shared insights from his eight years of experience at UNDPKO and reflected more generally on the challenges of his office.
Mr. Guéhenno will be succeeded as Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations by Alain Le Roy later this summer.
