Justice Goldstone Addresses IPI

On November 5, 2009, the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted a resolution endorsing the report of the UN Fact Finding Mission on the Gaza Conflict, led by Richard Goldstone, the South African judge who served as chief prosecutor of the UN International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda.

Commission Head Speaks of Need to Combat Impunity in Guatemala

The head of a UN-mandated commission in Guatemala told an audience at IPI on Tuesday, July 7, 2009 that Guatemala’s economic elite has begun to understand the serious danger posed by international organized crime, and particularly narcotrafficking, and that the solution requires a stronger state capable of confronting it.

Impunity and justice have been hot topics in recent discussions about African politics and governance. The African Union (AU) Commission and the International Peace Institute (IPI) held an expert workshop in Monrovia, Liberia, in May 2009 to consider a paper on the question  

About This Project

This project explores ways to better integrate justice thinking into multilateral peacemaking, peacekeeping, peacebuilding and fact-finding efforts. IPI works with partners in the UN system, UN membership, other regional organizations and civil society to consider the relationship between international and national criminal justice mechanisms, peace efforts, and other approaches to justice.
