Task Force Two Roundtable on Peace Operations

As part of IPI's Task Forces on Strengthening Multilateral Security Capacity, IPI organized a roundtable discussion of peace operations held at the Trygve Lie Center for Peace, Security, and Development. It was the first of four roundtables of Task Force Two on Inter- and Intra-state Armed Conflict and featured intensive discussion of institutional and policy challenges related to peace operations, options for overcoming these challenges, and the obstacles that may be faced in so doing.

IPI Launches Task Force on Inter- and Intra-state Armed Conflict

On June 11th-12th, representatives of United Nations member states and academic experts gathered at the Greentree Estate on Long Island for the opening plenary meeting of IPI’s “Task Force Two: Inter- and Intra-state Armed Conflict.”

IPI Co-organizes Seminar for Representatives and Envoys of the Secretary-General

IPI co-organized the Fourth Seminar for Special and Personal Representatives and Envoys of the Secretary-General with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) from October 16th-18th at Le Mirador Kempinski Hotel in Mont Pèlerin, Switzerland. All current full-time representatives were invited to participate, along with the most senior staff in the relevant UN departments and agencies.

IPI SRSG Series: Martti Ahtisaari

IPI was pleased to organize the latest event in our SRSG Series entitled "The Future Status of Kosovo and the UN." This event featured Mr. Martti Ahtisaari, the Secretary-General's Special Envoy for the future status process for Kosovo. Mr. Ahtisaari spoke about the latest developments in the status process and his recommendations to the UN Security Council on how to reach a sustainable future in Kosovo.

IPI SRSG Series: Ian Martin

IPI organized the latest event its "SRSG Series" which featured Mr. Ian Martin, the Secretary-General's Special Representative in Nepal and Head of the United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN). Mr. Martin spoke about the challenges of the rapidly evolving peace process in Nepal and the role of United Nations.

For nearly forty years, IPI has been at the forefront of making peacekeeping more reliable and effective. From the training of UN peacekeeping troops in the 1970s, to the current work on multidimensional peace operations, IPI aims to deepen the understanding of peacekeeping missions around the world and to develop policy ideas for their success.
