New CTITF Report on Biological and Chemical Threats Launched at IPI

“The governments of the world are facing a very daunting challenge in asymmetric warfare,” said Robert Orr, Assistant Secretary-General for Policy Coordination and Strategic Planning and Chair of the Counter-Terrorism Implementation Task Force (CTITF) at an event at IPI on November 10th. “The threat of terrorism in one that is very real; it affects everyone around the globe, and those asymmetries are really something that we can only address through broad international cooperation.”

“What I wanted to find out with my research was whether deradicalization programs work—and from what I saw, they really do,” said Hamed El-Said, Manchester Metropolitan University Professor, at the launch of IPI's new report Transforming Terrorists: Examining International Efforts to Address Violent Extremism. The report was co-authored by IPI Senior Policy Analyst Naureen Chowdhury Fink.

Terrorism Experts Meet at IPI to Discuss UN Strategy

Jean-Paul Laborde, Chair of the UN Counter-Terrorism Implementation Task Force (CTITF) and Director of its office, reiterated the importance of effective, comprehensive and global implementation of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy while speaking during a series of panel discussions co-hosted by the International Peace Institute and the CTITF.  

About This Project

IPI’s work on terrorism supports the broad UN community — including Member States, experts and practitioners — by bringing international research on terrorism and counterterrorism to bear on UN policy debates. In addition, IPI uses its convening role to create informal fora that support dialogue and policy development to strengthen multilateral security capacity to address transnational terrorism and violent political militancy.
