On August 20, 2008, Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) for Timor-Leste and Head of the United Nations Integrated Mission in Timor-Leste Mr. Atul Khare addressed a select group of diplomats and other members of the United Nations and NGO communities in IPI’s Trygve Lie Center. In providing an informative account of UN statebuilding support efforts in Timor-Leste, he discussed the challenges associated with the raw scars of conflict in a country trying to rebuild its institutions and identity.

Task Force Two Roundtable on Peace Operations
As part of IPI's Task Forces on Strengthening Multilateral Security Capacity, IPI organized a roundtable discussion of peace operations held at the Trygve Lie Center for Peace, Security, and Development. It was the first of four roundtables of Task Force Two on Inter- and Intra-state Armed Conflict and featured intensive discussion of institutional and policy challenges related to peace operations, options for overcoming these challenges, and the obstacles that may be faced in so doing.
